UKWebHostReview.comCustomer Rated & Reviewed Web Hosts |
LCN.com started life as a complementary service to its then parent company Advantage Interactive Design which specialised in web design. By offering domain registration and web hosting it promoted the “one-stop-shop” idea for customers to get their web site on-line.
The dot-com bubble was starting to burst in 2001 and LCN broke away from its parent ties to concentrate on Internet services rather than web design.
The web has changed a lot since 2000 and so has LCN.com, constantly adapting and evolving to deliver industry leading domain registration, web hosting and server solutions. One thing however remains constant, providing excellent value for money and maintaining 100% focus on the needs of our customers.
Putting our customers at the heart of the business has helped us grow into one of the top UK domain and hosting providers with over 200,000 satisfied customers and over 350,000 domain names registered.

5I don’t usually write reviews (not positive ones at least
) but in the light of the recent experience I have had with LCN.com support I felt it was only fair to do.
The support staff are exceptionally knowledgable, friendly… and patient. I have had quite a few technical queries about getting the most out of my hosting plan and I’ve received fantastic advice for all of my questions. The hosting plans have a lot of useful features and include a massive amount of value adds (advertising vouchers, free web design software, email marketing credits, etc.) for what I feel is an extremely reasonable price.
I came to buy with LCN.com through a recommendation from a friend and I will be passing this recommendation onto many others too.

2.8I’ve been registering domains with LowCostNames for a while now and must admit they were better in the old days. There hosting isn’t up to much

5I was actually recommended to LCN by a friend around a year ago and really am very impressed with the company as a whole.
I’m a little bit of a technophobe so found my first purchase quite difficult but I had the full support of LCN all the way through! I know that good customer service can be hard to find nowadays but LCN are definitely looking in the right place!
Since my first purchase I have purchased another 39 domain names! I’m yet to find full use for each of them but LCN have offered me various discounts over the past few months which has really fueled me to keep on hunting for that next hidden gem!
I have already recommended friends to LCN and even have my brother giving things a try! I’ll definitely continue to recommend LCN

5Can’t fault these guys. Non premium support number and a very easy to use control panel. Never had a problem with site stability and they have always been friendly and professional whenever I’ve had to get some help from their technical support team. Very good host.

2I work as a web developer and I have a lot of experience of many different hosts. The shared hosting services from LCN are definitely easy to use, but they are over simplified. Compared to other control panels the offering of LCN is underwhelming. Just because the reduced features make it easy, it doesn’t mean that the LCN controls are any easier to use than anyone elses. Far from it in fact. The amount they charge for things like extra databases is also extortionate. Considering that there are so many providers out there I don’t really understand why people settle.
I bought a hosting account with LCN based on my clients wishes - they had been sold on LCN by someone else - and found that the FTP server was very slow and the site itself failed to load several times. Also, the server configuration of the LCN shared hosting makes it very difficult to get custom built sites running properly. There is a security file on Linux servers (like the ones LCN use) called .htaccess. This file is _completely invisible_ to the users via FTP, so once you upload it, thats it. It’s there and it is staying. You can’t even modify it using the file manager in the control panel! This file is responsible for so much “stuff” that happens on all but the most basic of sites that this “feature” is truly remarkable for all the wrong reasons.
I used a utility to monitor uptime and previously it never alerted me to downtime with my former host, but on LCN it was about once a week. I can understand why people who have bought a small website and need it hosting for personal / small business use find no problems, but this is because they have no experience of anything better. LCN is actually really poor when it comes to their product.
Overall, I am confused as to how people actually like the LCN service. Their customer service is decent, but focused almost entirely on upsell in my experience. There are better companies (like Heart Internet for one, one I use a lot) that charge less and deliver buckets more, on server that are more reliable too.

4.5I am a Software Developer and host a Game Server on an LCN Virtual Private Server. LCN’s support has been simply astonishing. If there’s a problem, they’ll actually reply to you within a day, with a solution. All Server hardware is top-notch, There are however connection problems though. But when that happens, the engineers at LCN are on the case. The Features of the Packages are brilliant, the value of money is good considering unlimited bandwidth, etc.
I recommend LCN.com as your next webhost. You will not be disappointed.
